get a voltmeter that measusures impedance.... which is pretty much all of them.

it will tell you what the resistance is of the voice coil.

RESISTANCE and IMPEDANCE are different things. You are looking for the resistance. Impedance is frequency dependant, or it's resistance at a given frequency.

Yes, resistance not impedance.

I'm going to start scouting ebay for a p7600mp.

Time to install kappa's , maybe I should do one at a time so I can hear the difference?

Holy cow, these kappa's are amazing. I've only installed one side, but wow. I can't wait to go cruising tonight.

Well I actually went and tried a 7700 today instead of just looking. What a pain. I don't like the dual purpose ****.

I am definately set on a 7600 now.

The 7600 is Pioneer's 'value' line from last year... I'm pretty sure the 7700 out-performs it in all ways. You might want to try and get used to that ****.

FYI on the AVIC-N2, it uses the GPS to keep you from viewing DVD from the built in screen with the car in motion. No more just grounding the P. Brake wire...

I was comparing the 760mp and the 7700mp on specifications from pioneer's website. The only major difference I see is that the 7700 has the Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) and the 760 doesn't.

The 760 also lacks the super tuner IIID+ , track title list, limited tag length at 30 instead 64, 2 level indicators instead of 3, and mp3 list search by folder only not folder and file.

I assume the d1 works the same as the n2?

I might have to go with clarion/alpine/eclipse if they truly prevent dvd-watching... since that would be, (quite obviously, I might add,) the entire reason for the whole in-dash dvd screen.

If you end up with the N2 you can mod the GPS Ant. Cable. Way off topic. So if you end up with one start a new thread, I’ll fill you in…

Gladsoneiroc, if you like the one **** on the 7700 go for it. It is easier it find a particular MP3 with the 7700 over 760. But I don’t like the look of the 7700. But it’s your money. If you don’t like the look, try to EBay an 8600/860…

Okay so the 760 doesn't but the 7600 does have the ASL. Do I need the ASL (Automatic Sound Levelizer)?

Would the 760 be worth $15 more than the 7600?

ASL uses a small mic in the HU and will turn the volume of the HU up as ambient noise in the car goes up. If you want to pay $15.00 for that do it. But most people never use this.

ASL does not work well. I finally turned it off...

it reads the "road noise" essentially through chassis vibrations... because with the windows up, when you increase speed, the volume gets uncomfortably-loud, when it should hardly change at all...

they way it *should* have been designed, is with a microphone on the front of the flip-out mechanism... or make a spot on the back, so you can leave the supplied mic plugged in at all times, and it could use that instead.

and if your windows are down... it doesn't interpret wind noise as it would road noise...

basically the problem is our cars have a lot of road noise vibration, and the ASL responds too much, (at any setting,) but maybe it would work fine in a luxury car, or one where the radio isn't so close to the ground(road noise.)

If you haven't gotten your HU yet, I'd suggest checking out a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X789. Compared to the Pioneer 7700, it has higher voltage preouts, two control *****, a color screen, motorized face, and a few other things. It's cheaper than the 8600, which I was looking at. I have one in my car, and really like it.

I love excelons just as much as the pioneers... just that the 8600 had much more features.
