Door Panel Pods

I was researching the kick panel speaker thing when I ran across a place www.basshedz.com who has a 91 z28 for the store mascott and he has made some really cool door pods. This guy is impressive as are his prices. I just bought a 92 purple haze Z28 and I am about to undergo a complete audio transformation. I have a Bose set-up that I was going to gut and install some infinity kappa's but since I have done some research and acquired some new ideas I may only use the rear deck with different speakers.

It's ok. His monitor install isn't up to par with the rest of his install, and although his front installation looks good, I doubt it sounds that good. The imaging must be a mess and the integration of the mids and tweeter isn't likely to be too good.

He seems to have good fabrication skills though. I like how his trunk looks.

Imaging from door panel

What if you used strictly mids in the door and tweets in the kick panel or vice versa, would the imaging be more in line then? Also, Are Infinity Kappa's still a good speaker or has someone else taken the lead lately? It has been fifteen years since I have put together an audio system. I was partial to Infinity and Kenwood back in the day. Could there be a positive scenario where you would incorproate the door panel speaker pods?

mids in the doors and tweets in the kicks isn't too bad. It images about the same as most cars with the speakers mounted low in the doors. Using multiple speakers like that install will pull your image way back and create a "headphone" effect. It'll also cause major cancellation above around 1k or 1.5khz, and will make it impossible to have a smooth integration to the tweeter unless the woofers farther back are crossed at a lower frequency than the one farthest forward, and in doing that, you'll just have a ton too much midbass, which a lot of people probably like.

Infinity stuff is decent for the money, but the sky is the limit in terms of better products out there.

door pod and kick panel mod

Jim, could you make the door panel pod as well as a kicker pod that would balance out well and be functional? You could use my bose kick panels and just install the tweets there like you were saying and then configure the door panel in such a way as to compliment the entire system. It would also aleviate the space problem associated with cramming all of the speakers in the kicks. I am about ready to begin the project so let me know your thoughts and I can send you a pair of door panels and you could start playing around. You could also advise me as to the best 6.5 to put in the door to help the sound quality instead of negating it. I DONT LIKE RAP and all of that bass. I like it to sound like the band is in the car with you and everything is balanced. I do like ACDC loud though.

it's certainly possible do do it that way. Because it's all custom construction, it would cost more than my kick panels, but we could certainly work something out. PM me or AIM Jim85IROC and we'll chat.
