Do they make kits to attach an auxiliary port to a stock head unit? i have a 1988 firebird trans am gta with the steering wheel controls, ac delco head unit. I want it so i can connect my mp3, i hate fm transmitters and my tape deck is busted.

I think you just ruled out your best option.

There is no known kit available. In order to adapt a hardwired modification, as opposed to sending the signal via an FM transmitter, would entail modifying the stock radio's internal circuits pior to it's amplification circuit and it would likely needed to be "switched" to avoid interference with signals coming from the radio circuit or the tape player. And the signal levels would need to be matched closely to avoid overloading the stock radio's preamplification circuit.

Go with the FM transmitter or just swap out the stock unit with an aftermarket headunit. With the wiring and installation kits available today, this can be done and reversed back to original a any time without any damage or problems. Although you will likely lose the steering wheel controls.
