Good?

Hey wassup. A friend of mine gave me a free stereo recently. Its a Pioneer. I was wondering if its any good. I dont know if you guy can tell by just look at some pics of it, but I though I'd give it a try. By good I mean maybe rate it on a scale from 1-10. Like, is it a crappy quality radio or not. Im changing it because the cuurent stock one that came with my formula is in bad shape anyways. This was free, so I was hoping its a good one. Thanks in adnce for all input.

Re: Good?

Wether it is good or not is a relative term.
here are some specs:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...DEH-1400?tab=B

In my opinion any thing that is free is good.
When I evaluate a head unit I look at the max output voltage, Max undistorted output voltage and the output source impedance. However many companies don't publish these specs.
All of those specs come from measurements. The most important is that you like it. No measureing instrument can tell you that. Listen to it and see what
you think .
P.S. don't put picks of your serial # on the net. Check the last 2 pix.

Re: Good?

The extra controls for adjusting everything is nice but its not really a very powerful head unit. If you have a speaker amp then this would be a great buy but if your using this to power your speakers id rather have something else.

Re: Good?

Well, it's something that will get you by but it's honestly an older heat unit.

Was that a DEH-1400? That means it's roughly nearly 5 years old... better processors, more power, more features, etc have come about since then.

Re: Good?

Here's the thing. I just want quality sound. I dont want over the top, top of the line stuff. I just want it to sound good. Now I dont know the first thing about connecting a stereo, so its not as easy as just going outside to see if it sounds good. Theres a stereo place around here that charges 50$ to install if. I dont want to have them install it though, if this is a piece of junk. I dont know what to look for in specs for a stereo. I dont know whats crap, whats good, or whats awesome. So I dont know if those specs are even remotely good. What Im just asking is, maybe if you guys had to rate that unit on a 1-10 scale what it would be. I do appreciate your guys input though.

Re: Good?

Something I learned years ago in audio is that it doesn't matter what others think as long as it sounds good to you (the customer). If you hook it up and it sounds better to you than the last one you had then it is an improvement.
Only you can really tell. But then again if your trying to impress others then hook it up and ask them.
