Alpine model CDA-9884 need help.

Alpine model CDA-9884 need help.
When I plug my iPod into my KCE-422i wire that I bought to hook it up to the Alpine head unit CDA-9884, it says alpine on my iPod and then says ready to disconnect. It doesn't give me options to use my iPod, or even see whats on it on my head unit as described. Maybe I'm missing something? My iPod isn't configured right? I have no idea.
