Sub choice questions

so im finally getting around to finishing up my sound system. im going for a complete alipine system, so i have Type R 6x9s and Type S 4x6s. i have my sub box almost completely done (thanks to the sticky thread on the boxes), and now im picking out which subs i want. i am going for two 12" Type R's but i dont know which ones to get, the 4 ohm DVC or the 2 ohm DVC ones. right now i have a Legacy LA690 1000 watt amp im going to use but thats purely because of cost, and im thinking of getting an alpine amp sometime in the future (read: a really really long time) so i was wondering which would be better, if i want a good system now and when i get a new amp. i was thinking the 2 ohm ones, but im not quite sure if thats what i should be getting. if anyone has any suggestions i would be very appreciative.

Re: Sub choice questions

it really all comes down to what your am can handle as far as "ohm load." 2 ohms are usually better for SPL (sound pressure level) but it depends how you wire them. in a series 2 ohms combines to a 4 ohm load but in a parellel circuit it ends up being a 1 ohm load

Re: Sub choice questions

That amp can only only do 4ohm subs when bridged. So you should get the dual 2ohm alpines. This will work well once you get a decent amp, as they can be parallel wired for 2 ohm.

My only question would be. Why would you spend money on 2 decent subs and 1 really crappy amp? Instead of 1 decent sub and 1 decent amp?

Re: Sub choice questions

If your going for sound, Get the 2 ohm subs and wire them to 1 ohm and invest in a better amp best amps for running 1 ohm are the mono amps

Question: are you set on doing a alpine amp if not I suggest hifonics (brutus series) they handle power great and most of their amps are 1 ohm stable, For your set up i would suggest this amp
http://www.hifonics.com/Hifonics_Brutus_BRZ_Amps.html
And you need the BRZ1200.1d (the first amp listed)
