what would YOU suggest?

so my stock bose stereo that kicked azz got stolen some yrs ago, and now the radio sounds like crap, when there is no static it's ok but not 100% clear but channels will only work when they want to and sometimes they will just go out and get staticy. i have the attena off but it still doesnt do anything when on. so sometime the speakers/head unit will get replaced and i need suggestions. i wanna replace all speakers with nothing thats to expensive but thats good quality, will play stock volume level, and thats clear and crisp. i want a named brand (sony, pioneer, etc.) so what some suggestions and what could i expect to pay for all the speakers. and i also need suggestions on a black/blue lights head unit that is nice and classy but isnt overdone and isnt large and also an name brand. and do you think a head unit/attena/speakers will fix the static/issues and if not how much could i expect to spend for other problems/wires and i will need all work done at a shop. Thanks.

Re: what would YOU suggest?

if you're trying to stay low budget, a used deck is not a bad idea. $100 is not going to get you anything really great/reliable brand new, but can score you one heck of a piece thats previously owned. plus you'll more likely keep it for when/if you decide to upgrade later.

speakers i don't like doing used, so here's where you can go new. this is where personal preference comes in; some people like pioneer, some infinity, some more esoteric. its your ears, and this is where they're gonna be needed. www.diymobileaudio.com is a great place for reviews from some good guys.

amps - go used again if you're on a budget

subs - you can go pretty cheap by checking out deals over at www.partsexpress.com

the 880PRS was one of the best decks i've ever owned. only got rid of it because i sold the GTP it was in and didn't have the TA yet. would buy another in a heartbeat (or its newer version). Very hot looking in black....

Re: what would YOU suggest?

REVIVING, so what is the reason of why the headunit would cause problems? I just know my radio doesnt come in worth squat anymore but i can pop in an cassete and its clear sounding but just doesnt sound good from the speakers, nothing like our durango lol.

I know when we got the car stolen, and got it back the radio was totaly messed up and just sounded like crap and one of the rear speaker panels were loose so i think they stripped out the bose speakers and put in some cheap crap.

I would actually love to keep an cassete player as it just brings you back to the good ol days, but i would also like to have an cd player and an ipod player if possible. But i dont want some totaly R1CER looking headunit, just something plain but nice.

I think i might go with some infinity speakers, being our durango has them and WOW they might not blast out your windows (im not going go around blaring music to loud anyhow so thats not an problem) but they come in VERY VERY sharp and clear. And how many speakers were there in the stock upgraded bose system? Thanks

Re: what would YOU suggest?

im thinking this headunit if i do replace my stocker, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130KEHP...0.html?tp=5684

Is there an way to change the lights to an medium blue though?

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130KEHP...0.html?tp=5684 Maybe this one though being its more STOCKER looking which i like.

I would also add an ipod adapter to.

for speakers, http://www.crutchfield.com/s_108529I...9i.html?tp=105
These x2 for rear speakers/doors

These for dash http://www.crutchfield.com/s_136C240...0X.html?tp=105

So, is this an decent setup? All i really want is an nice, clear sound, with an nice deep/clean sounding bass when wanted and to be fairly loud but nothing dramatic. I also want them to be clear all the way up to their max power level.

Re: what would YOU suggest?

go pioneer all the way especially if you want the blue lights on the head unit and they make some good midrange speakers that are not overly priced. be sure to check our antenna WIRE when u change out ur head unit. that may be why u have so much static. oh and rockford makes the best amps for the money/quality ratio. try to stick with descent wires too. sorry but dont ever use a used amp unless you know where it came from. even if it works it can still have burned componets and resistors in the casing. educated guess is about 500 for four pioneers speakers, head unit, wires, and amp. no need to go expensive with pioneer, theyve been around long enough to be trusted enough to buy their mid grade products without fear of getting garbage. BUT if u want real performance audio,,, boston acoustics all day long.

Re: what would YOU suggest?

also, im thinking of maybe just intalling our barely used deck that came out of an 98 ford escort zx2, everthing including the harness is there so what else would i all need to install it, or will it even fit? ITs an sony model CDX-GT320 thanks.

Well i went ahead and tried it, this stuff is actually really easy to do but anyhow i need an adapter kit for the radio to make it work and i dont have the money right now for an adapter kit AND and dash kit.

Re: what would YOU suggest?

i HATE sony but if u insist on using it to save a dollar, u can be ghetto with it to skip the adapter kit and cut the factor harness to splice it into the deck harness.
btw, what is the size for speakers you need? do u need front AND rear or just one of them?

Re: what would YOU suggest?

When you start driving the car to school and work You are not going to want to have an extremely expensive head unit to give someone a reason to break into your car again. That is part of the reason I went with a Sony xplod unit. The CDX GT330 unit to be exact and I got it from crutchfield. Once I get another car to everyday drive I will get a pioneer unit eventually, but for now my sony is great. I payed about $100 for it, it has all the features one would expect from a new head unit. HD radio, ipod hook up, adjustable EQ ect. I have a sony 600 watt 4 channel amp in my spare tire well I got for 60 bucks used, and thats powering all four of my pionner speakers. I didn't skimp on the speakers at all. I have pioneer 4 way 6x9s in the sail panels and pioneer 3 ways in the dash. If you run your speakers off the head unit they are not going to sound very good no matter what kind they are. I would recommend getting a cheap amp and hide it away..

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on 3-way speakers. Stay with 2-way as you'd have a hard time hearing the difference.

that was an apart of the reason why i was thining of instaling our old unit, it sounds very very much like what you have and you can also detach the faceplate and store whever, im also hoping to have atleast an decent probaly viper alarm and possibly tinted windows before i start driving it to limit the chances of getting broken into, also im not an air head that leaves my wallet on the seats lol. I dont really want to get into amps and stuff, i just kinda want good quality stuff that are mostly just stock, or above stock quality/sound.

a three way speaker will give you more variance in frequency ranges than a two way will. simply put, unless you know what you are listening for, three way speakers are a waste IF you are only looking to supplement your stock radio.

no, all after market units will come with a harness but there are to many variations of Factory harnesses for them to supply you with one that hooks to your specific model.

Re: what would YOU suggest?

oh ok, ya sounds like an waste of money for my purpose, also whats the diffrence between component and regular speakers?

edit: evermind found out for the first question, would i want to spend the extra $ for component speaker?

Edit again: nevermind, im not really looking into cutting holes into my interior pieces.

i see, so if i was to buy an nother headunit, i would need an adapter kit still?

Re: what would YOU suggest?

componet and regular speakers? im assuming your looking at the categories on crutchfeild? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0KBbXOl.../speakers.html
yes, if u replace the head unit you need a harness that will plug in from the unit to your factory harness. UNLESS you cut the wires and splice them together. but the harness is cheap, so if you have the fifteen, twenty bucks, i would suggest gettiing a decent one.
how much are you willing to spend on this setup? i started doing audio systems nine years ago and one thing i learned is that you can go cheap if you know what your looking at, but you will always get what u pay for. if u want i can put a setup together with links if u give me a price range. and btw, crutchfeild is nice when u have the cash but on a budget i recommend staying away. they tend to have many brands... but theyre usually the upper echelon of what the brands make.

Re: what would YOU suggest?

this is my problem, i cant really say an price range being im not sure how much i'll have at the time i want to buy my stuff, i would like for each pair of speakers to be around, but under if possible $100 bucks.

I might splerge on an headunit like the one you showed me, its quite high in the price range (for me) but its something i know i would like.

I added an few links to speakers that i think i might like and that are decent price.

edit: Hmm, iv actually always been an fan of kenwood and never was let down and infinity, from what i hear in our durango is fantastic.
