Keep subs...or not
My dad and i put 2 10" subs into my 85' Z28 a while back. At the time i didnt think i wanted to upgrade the speakers, but now i am thinking about getting rid of the subs/box/amp and just putting new speakers in my car. Im tired of every song i listen to having a ton of bass. If i kept the subs and got new speakers would i still have alot of bass on every song i listen to? It seems like most of the sound is coming from the subs right now anyways. Is there a way i can decide when i want the subs on? Would putting all new speakers in and just ditching the subs still give me a fair amount of bass? (kinda getting tired of a ton of bass anyways)
Thanks
Thanks

Most head units allow for bass boost and subwoofer volume levels adjustments. Adding additional speakers will not decrease your amount of bass it'll just bring the mids and highs up.

subs dont have to be loud to do their job, but you'll find the sound will not be as full if you get rid of them. your deck should have adjustments (correct way to adjust), but the quicker fix would be just to lower the gain on the sub amp.
you could always go down to just one sub, but that will require rewiring and building a new box

Your amp should have adjustments on it as well to tone down the sub output and freq range - sounds like you just need some fine tuning.

Invest in a new deck and make sure you plug your RCA's into the subwoofer connections on the back of the deck and just turn down the "sub" setting on your deck, that's the easiest thing to do rather than retuning your amp, with the sub setting on the newer decks you can just turn ur subs up or down for how much bass you want for each song

Re: Keep subs...or not
For our cars i feel that two subs is complete over kill. The whole hatch design passes more air creating a lot of bass. I would say set it up like mine good adjustable head unit and one ten inch sub running under its full capacity.
Don't get me wrong I can shake the **** out of other cars on the road if I turn it up but if you keep it at mid way or lower the sound quality is awesome.
