Toggle switch for additional speaker - possible?

Seems basic but not sure what the end result would be. I have a small interior speaker (actually an old dash speaker) that is connected to a very small min-amp (less than 12 Watts or something). That amp is wired to an IPOD, and is ALSO wired to ANOTHER (External) speaker. My question - can I install a simple on/off (two-prong) toggle switch that allows me to control whether or not the interior speaker is on or off? I've read some stuff about this and many seemed to say it should work fine. Others said a toggle switch will distort audio quality. I don't want a switch to turn the AMP on/off because I always want it on for the external speaker.

Your thoughts? If a switch WILL work, any suggestions on Amp / Rating would be appreciated. Thanks guys

You can find out if it will cause distortion by simply disconnecting the wire to the speaker you want the toggle switch in line with.

If it does distort you can use a DPDT switch with a resistor soldered to it to balance the load.
