false floor width?

I am building a sub box for the well area for a 92 camaro for a customer and want to utilize some of the trunk area to increase the cubic feet. I forgot to measure the width of the trunk from behind the rear seats to where the trunk slants down into the well area. I would really appreciate that. Thanks

Re: false floor width?

I guess what i'm really asking is; can i take the 39.5 inches (thats the width of the box) and run that width up to the back seats?

Re: false floor width?

Just measured mine for ya.....

Up next to the seats is a tad wider than that the rear drop off point, which is 40". I didn't bother measuring the wider point so it of no use anyways.Your 39.5" difference from thde measured 40" would give the clearance room for any variation so the 39.5" will work good for the whole rear upper floor part. Then just the upper panel running flush to smooth it all out & hide the clearance space vs "just a box sitting there".

You'd be better off having the car there, cutting a bit shy of the space and using carpet to fill the gaps, just staple strips to the side of the mdf then do your final layer, the vision will bold in there nicely

Re: false floor width?

If you wanted to take it out to 39.75", I wouldn't see a problem with & might make flush fitting the cover panels to the sides easier & less box movement. How are you going to secure the box down? The gas tank is only .75" below the floor there, so can't "just screw it to the floor" & not risking running screws into the tank.

I'd at least run straps down from the front & back, down behind the seat & down into the rear well. Could put some rivnuts into the floor to provide a hidden anchor.

I'm going to put blocks on the sides and behind the box to keep it from sliding. won't take much
