car radio replacement recs
My OEM cd radio is crapping out.
I've searched the forums, but really want a good recommendation for a cd radio player with iPod capabilities that will fit my car.
It's a 1992 Pontiac Firebird base model (with automatic retracting radio antenna).
I've never done this before and am a lament, but a decent overall DIYer.
If you could recommend the radio and all other equipment I need, that would be great... preferably of what you used and worked for you.
Thanks!!!

You have acouple choices. Double Dins which take some fitment or single DIN which you need an adaptor for.
There are various adaptors some are flush mounts others protude out 2" or so off the bezel. I used a cheap JVC with single bay adaptor. Works okay. The shop that installed it messed up the mirror map lights so I had to splice and add that back into the harness for those to work.
Either way you should be able to get an install kit to convert all your wiring over to keep your functionality of the antenna.

Thanks for the info! Would you happen to have any links for some recommended single DIN radios? I know nothing of what's good or bad for the money. Also, any links for flush mount adaptors and install kits? Sorry, I really know nothing of this.
Thanks again

Just check out your local audio store. I'd stay away from Walmart or place like that. You should be able to play with display units and try them out. They should also carry install kits too.
If you search around here you should find some good information. There is plenty of posts about mounts and cd players.

alot of the stuff you get at sonic will be better quality than walmart and most come with all the stuff you need to put it in your car. just look on the left and select one that has ipod capability.
dont get one one the chineese brands, get like pioneer, clarion, jvc, alpine, etc. i got a hd sony with all the features and was cheap. and i was surprised how it sounded with the stock speakers, im pretty into quality sound
