I would go with a single 10" sub. Pioneer IMPP, JL, Fosgate, etc. Dont go cheap and buy a non name brand.

jl all the way, they are probably the best subs out there. get a 10, put it in a tube (jc whitney) and toss it in the back.

The system I have in my car sounds very nice, has clear highs and nice tight bass. It can get quite loud when needed but you really can't hear it outside the car. It was designed for me to listen to, not to tell everybody in my neighborhood what I listen to. Here it is: Kenwood CD player, Kenwood Digital Sound Processor, one Kenwood 4x50w amp pushing the front four speakers(MTX 4"x6" in dash/Kenwood 6"x9" in sail panels) and one Kenwood amp 1x150w pushing the Bazooka RS 10" sub. It is a very nice clean tight sound in my car. I would recomend this to everybody. And when I need to I can get very loud. Hope this helps.
