I'm talking about the front area where the stock 4X6 are. Has anyone ever fit in 6-1/2? Cause I just won some as a prize. And my fronts are starting to break so I was wondering if anyone has done it. And also how hard it would be.

Hehe...indeed I did!!

It sounded great too. Not a lot more bass (like I had hoped), but more volume. Know how when you have the fade at 0, you can still here noticeably more from the rears? Well I heard more out of the fronts...bigger speaker = better efficiency.

I put Eclipse 6.5s in the dash, and had they not had an angled tweeter, they'd still be in there!! Problem was that the tweeters, on the angled up edge, hit the speaker grilles, and bent one of them up a small amount. Well I got sick of looking at the bowed up grille after a year, and I yanked them.

Here's the key...they fit as long as they are 1 3/4 inches deep or less...hard to find in a 6.5. The problem is the drivers side...the speaker will be sitting on the instrument cluster under the dash pad. If you can find a 6.5 1 3/4 inches deep without an angled tweeter, it will fit!!

don't do it!!!! I hacked up my dash and i regret it everyday. Just get some good replacement 4 by's. Panasonic makes a pair that handle 150 Watts. For $less than $60.

You could always put them in the kick panels or the doors. Neither is easy, but they are both better locations than the dash. I had 6.5's in the doors of my firebird, and now they reside in the kick panels of my IROC.

I didn't "hack up" my dash by any stretch! I wouldn't hack up anything!!

When saying my speaker grille bowed up a bit, I mean like an 1/8 of an inch, if that. It caused no damage at all when I put the 4x6s back in!

The only thing I did have to replace were my front speaker brackets (got them from a junkyard car for $5). Those I did need to cut up to place the 6.5s in there.

If they measure to fit, do it. Kick pods are definitely better, but if you're just looking for an easy solution, it works.

Didn't mean anything bad by it. I have a 90 RS. when they changen the dash in 90 the space under the dash got smaller so no matter what i did the 6-1/2's wouldent fit so i mounted them in the dash pad. Bad idea.
