Well, i dont like the qforms at all,
in my daily driving, i need my footrest for my G Turns, so i was thinkin, why not yoink out the cup holders on my 91 firebird, and replace it with custom fiberglass qform type of deal with like 5.25 or 6, im not sure on room, but even more important, sound imaging. what do you guys think? if you think its not a bad idea, ill get crackin on it and trying it out,

I built some pods for my doors to house a set of Eclipse 6 1/2" components.I would recommend something like this because you can build a little deeper pod to have more air space to get a bit more midbass out of your speakers.

Do you have the Point Source Eclipse 6.5s? How much were they, and are you happy with them? I'm debating on whether to go with Boston 6.5 Pros, MB Quart components or the Point Sources when I do my kick panels.

Jason E. I don't have the Eclipse anymore,but when I did have them I was VERY happy with them. I would suggest either the Eclipse or the MB Quart.But go and listen to a good shop and see what you think personally.It's hard to decide when you've got a lineup of nothing but high-end quality stuff like that to choose from.

 

Well, Not only do I have Q-form kicks but I have a set of JL Evolutions mounted in the doors. What i did was take a piece of 3/4 MDF and shaped in to match the carpet area. Then, using a router I took out a 1/4 or so and recessed the speaker in that. I took some carefull measuring to clear the power windows and the like but it can be done.

For the record I do get MUCH better bass from the set of JL's in the door than the kicks.

Hey nosaint, thats a good response, cause i too have power windows and i worried about that,
my question is this, as you sit in your car, you close your eyes, do you get surronded by sound, is it like whirlwind, how does it hit you, cause the 4x6 are nothing compared to the 6.5s i would imagine. so do you like the way the music hits you. did you do it to both sides, and are there pics of it somewhere?

Some people say that to if u have 2 sets of speakers up front u will loose your imaging, in my case, it is set up so that i can control the balance of each set of JL 5.25's. When I try to hear where the sound is coming from it seems to be about dash height which is what i was aiming for, Also I have a DSP which lets me change the equalizing for one, two or four people!!! I am very happy with the results except that i borrowed my sub amp to power the other set of JL's and now Im sub less!!!

I had a set of kenwood 4 x 6's in the dash and was never happy. Never unhappy mind u just not happy. Q forms at the time were pricy so I went for the door thing. I have a few pics on my page (click on trans -then audio)

I picked up a set of q forms on Ebay for 50!
