Good writeup

Do the button light up at night for the radio controls?

This is an awesome write up. I wonder if the clock spring from another GM vehicle would fit? Seems that people want an arm and a leg on Ebay for the clock spring and 98+ F-bodies aren't very common in the yards around here, however there are a bunch of Pontiacs from 98+ that have the steering wheel radio controls.

Very cool mod. Like how subtle it is by using a newer style but still factory steering wheel.

I know the post says from 90-92 but would this work for a 86? Did they change the stearing column ?

Sorry for the long delay on the answer. Yes you would need a column that had the airbag. 89 or older doesn't have the second step in the splined shaft that the
Clock spring sits on. Also the shaft is shorter. The only difference installing a 90-92 column is the cruise control & wiper wiring clip is different. So cut the wires off the car in the yard. Again sorry for the time it took to respond.

Re: Factory Style Steering wheel radio controls on a 3rd gen

How easy was it to fish the original airbag wiring harness out of the column? I have a 91 and want to install an aftermarket wheel but do not want to cut the clock spring wiring. Id rather remove it from the column so that it could be reinstalled at a later date if I decided to return the car to stock.
