Help with cassette player not working

Hi, I recently bought the stock radio for my 88 Iroc and I'm having problems with the cassette player. It doesn't accept the tapes, but if I push the cassette in and hold it in, the "on" light illuminates and the radio turns off as if it's playing a cassette, but nothing plays and the eject button doesn't pop out like it should. I am able to rewind and fast forward, and once by sheer luck I was able to get a cassette to play by giving it a really forceful push.

I am speaking with the guy on eBay who I bought the radio from, but I don't really want to send it back. I was just wondering if maybe someone here would know what the specific issue could be.

The radio is a Delco 16066335

There is an optical sensor under a wheel to detect direction of the cassette. Over time they become weak or wear out. You have to up the power to it. The best bet is to send the radio in for repair, or buy a refurbished cassette unit.

Thank you for your reply. I figured it was something inside the unit that needed to be replaced but I was hoping it was a belt or something that I could repair myself. Guess I'll have to hunt down someone that can repair it. For some strange reason, the speakers on the passenger side (front right and rear right) are both very faint in sound. All the wiring is correct as I just installed these speakers this morning, so maybe that has something to do with the unit as well.

That is another common problem. Send it to me for repair. PM me for the details.
