id love to hear what u guys say about this

first off id like to say....happy holidays.
second...dont laugh at me

if u are familiar with the 1984 berlinetta camaro.you will know that the (in a sarcastic tone) fine crafty smart and ingenious ppl at GM put a nice AC Delco sound system in it WITH A GARBAGE SWIVEL BASE 100% CRAP RADIO UNIT......ARGH.

i want to use the factory speakers (for now) and thier wiring...i just wanna replace the head unit....which means ill be moving it to where the normal radio space is.please.before i go grab my chainsaw and just hack off the head unit... does anyone know the wire diagram and has anyone ever done this?.....please share your experience and story...thanks....

you have to remove the cover plate that goes around the radio/heater controls...a t-15 torx will take out the 4 torx screws in the corner. then you have to remove the 4 screws holding the mounting brackets for the radio...7mm will work here. when you do that, slide the radio out and unplug the wires from the back. now you can buy i wiring kit ($10) from just about any parts store. this kit will connect to the existing plugs inside the dash...all you have to do is wire the new radio to the plug. pick up a dash kit ($20) to hold in your new radio, set it up as the instructions say, and you should be all set.

yo, i have an '84 berlinetta with the same radio in it. I also have one of the best sounding sytems in my school. But not the best it could be with a REAL head unit. I have no clue how many watts that radio puts out, but i know its not many. I kept the radio in because it looks alot less suspicious about whats in the back, rather then a $500 head unit... a thief just knows there are some subs and amps back there ready to get stolen! In my camaro i also have the little "trunk well" lockable door which i mounted my sub-amp under, so when i lock my car up.. i just lock the little door too.. my subs are down in the trunk well and EVERYTHING looks completely stock. For my 17th B-day my parents bought me a Pioneer Cd changer.. which Best Buy mounted to the back of my seat(completely visible to theifs, idiots!), however they were nice enough to leave a good 10ft of extra cable, so i easily mounted that in the little lockable tool box on the side (opposite sparetire). Anyway, the remote for my CD changer is strategically located, guess where? well... since im a non-smoker, i mounted that in the ashtray, which is easily hidden by shutting the little flap. Damn this is long as hell.. well im just tryin to explain to you that i wasnt too bananas about the stock radio either, but i made do.. my **** hits hard, and nothings getting stolen, hah

i didnt hook the CD changer up, Best Buy did. Its an FM modulated CD changer pretty much meaning it works with the stock radio in your car. When i saw that, i realized i didnt want to get rid of my "berlinetta radio". And the lack of watts the radio puts out is made up by the amps i put in for my subs, and speakers. Since the radio is so called "rare and expensive", why change the cars stock set-up? It will only decrease its value later on from now. Just something to consider...

Here's another option: I had a friend who had a goofy radio, and instead of taking it out, he installed a CD player under the passenger seat. He mounted the detachable face (and wired it appropriately) above the rearview mirror (on the headliner) on a little fiberglass console he made. It looked pretty wicked.
