How badly would this damage the subs?

How badly does a sub get damaged after being played for 2 or 3 minutes with the wires on one sub wired correctly and the second sub wired backwards? Somebody returned a pair because they had them wired backwards and thought that they sounded bad.. The cones moved, just no real volume was coming out of them.. They play ok now, they weren't that great to begin with (just some rf punch's).

Anybody know? They don't appear to be blown...

Reversing the wires just puts the sound wave 180 deg out of phase.

Basically, have a box that has no seperation between the subs, It's like not having a box at all. Just pushing air with no resistance.

Whoever returned them was obviously a moron, or they just wanted some new subs. No damage at all Coming from an electronics engineer if that makes a difference. LOL
