I have the factory tape player in my 1992 Firebird. I want to put in a factory CD unit. Yes I know an aftermarket unit will sound infinitely better but I'm a stickler for "originality" and in particular, the peculiar red glow that is unique to Pontiacs (and BMWs from what I hear).

Anyway I understand that CD units from 1992 are hard to find since they didn't make many. I therefore assume I'll need to find one from a 4th gen or some other Pontiac donor.

Has anyone found a replacement Pontiac CD unit that will bolt and wire in directly without modifying brackets or dash?

Also, do I have to worry about theft codes and if so what do I do about them?
