Well, I've never built a box myself, but I can still give you a few pointers. Construct it out of 3/4 " mdf. This is the strongest and best sounding wood. Get in your car and measure, measure, measure. Remember: measure twice, cut once. It helps if you have a table saw for cutting it all. Use wood glue and wood screws. and once you have it complete, seal it good with lots of caulk so it is airtight.

To get this started for you ....

Most important factors:

(1) Internal volume of box needs to be suited for subs used (ie.- if sub designed for 1.5ft3 and you only give it 0.75ft3 it aint gonna be happy) (within 10% should be good enough)

(2) Box needs to be sealed from air leaks (ie.- use good construction quality and caulking on inside seams)

(3) Box needs to be strong enough to withstand internal pressures (use a divider and other internal bracing) (use 3/4" or thicker material) (use screws about every 2") (baffle board needs to be strongest part)

(4) Box should minimize resonances (use MDF instead of plywood or partical board) (avoid a cube shape or add an angled side) (line walls with polyfill batting)

If this is you first box then stick with a sealed design. It will be harder to get a ported or bandpass box to sound good.

Lot's of us have built our own boxes and would be willing to help you but we'll need more specific questions. None of use have time to fully answer a question like "How do I rebuild my engine?"

What exactly are you confused about?

well im not really confused..i just needed a place to start. youve given me light and now i have more questions ill prolly be doing this for my rents blazer since thats the car i have available...so ill be measuring out that soon. now where can i get MDF board??!?! like home debot? also do you know of any way to test the box without any subs? i dbout theres a waqy but i figured id ask. ill be getting some 12s soon..i think my dad traded a riced out integra with some subs..so ill just grab those. now the trunk of a blazer is massive compared to the size a 12" will need so what should i do? make a big box and divide it up into a small enough size for the sub area..or should i just make a smaller box? but then how would i attach the box to the trunk witout f'n it up?

you need to figure out what subs you want before you build the box, sop you can make it the correct size. for example, the next box i build will be for the set of boston pros that i want, which need .5 cubic feet each. so i will build my box around that. go to www.crutchfield.com or your local stereo shop and order a terminals for each sub. then go to home depot and get a sheet of mdf, some wood screws, some wood glue, and a tube of silicone. plan your box out before making your first cut. my box for 1 sub will have these INSIDE dimensions..... 12"x12"x6" if i multiply these figures, then divide by 1728 it will equal .5 cubit feet. (12x12x6=864/1728=.5) so you need to get your cubic feet, multiply it by 1728 then come up w/ some dimensions that equal this number when mulitplied. make sure this will fit in the back of the blazer...you shouldnt have much trouble since it's a big space. figure out the size of the sheets you need to cut (remember, you just figured out the inside dimensions, so you need to acount for the mdf which will be 3/4 thick) be sure that you box is deep enough that the subs will fit. now cut them up. cut out your hole for the sub mount in the top plate, then glue and screw them all together. it is important for you to make very accurate cuts so everything will fit together tightly. cut out the hole for the terminal, load it up w/ silicone so it will seal well, then screw it together. now seal up the rest of the joints and let it all dry. this is relatively simple especially if you have some sort of manufacturing experience (i had 4 years of woodshop in high school) but it also takes some planning. good luck. ps ecuse my typos im wasted
