What I have is in my sig. Total cost was about $2,000...I did all my installation. For a few hundred dollars more I could be at competition level. What I have now is loud enough to turn heads with volume to spare.

for the metal/rap combo that you listen to i wold reccomend a set of high quality ten inch subwoofers. they are perfect for the tight response needed for metal/rap

and if you ask what kind youll get like 600 different responses

several suggestions... put your money in the speakers.. ALL cd players do a similar job and only vary when it comes to features.. the sound going out is the same.
1st. decide what kind of enclosure you will put the subs in or if you will a bass tube.

2nd decide what the rest of the speakers in the car will be.. DON'T CUT CORNERS HERE!!

3rd decide how to amplify the system, i.e. 5/4/3 channel amp or seperate amps with a crossover system

4th pick a head unit that matches the needs of your system, with the correct # of preouts and the right look for you.

5th ALWAYS RUN LOW-LEVEL PREOUTS TO YOUR AMPS, do not hook up the speaker wires to the radio.. trust me...
6th enjoy...

I have a KENWOOD EXCELON KDCX615, A KDV910 IN-DASH FLIPOUT SCREEN W/ DVD PLAYER, 2 KENWOOD 201 AMPS GOING INTO 2 JL 12W3 12" SUBS, MOUNTED IN A CUSTOM BOX, A KENWOOD 501 4 CHANNEL AMP RUNNING MB QUART 4X6 IN THE DASH AND MB QUART 6x9'S IN THE REAR PANELS
AND AN AUDIOSOURCE 3.1 CONTROL UNIT FOR THE CROSSOVER.. TOTAL COST... ABOUT $8,000

I have 4*6speakers in Dash.
4",6", and tweater combo in back.
2-12" subs in trunk. and 12-disk chger
4-amps
Plenty loud enough to get you a tickett at least me anyway.
I would go with 12" subs I listen to rap, rock, and everything else. My 12's fit nicely with all music. Speaker Compo is up to you and your budgett.

I love the sound of Infinity Kappa speakers. They have just the tones and crispness that I like. For a cd player, look at the higher end of Pioneer's lineup. I have the DEH6000 and love it. Go with the 6200 or higher. You might want to look at JL Audio's W3 series for your subwoofers. You can usually get them for a decent price, and sound better than most other woofers in their price range. To power them, go with a class D amp such as the JBL BP600.1 or MTX 500D. You can usually find these amps on ebay for good prices. Whatever you decide to go with, LISTEN BEFORE YOU BUY. If possible listen to systems in other thirdgens and then decide on what you like.

I have the Pioneer DEH6000
Infinity Kappa 4x6s in the front
Cerwin Vega Stealth 6x9s in the back. (These WILL be replaced by Infinity when I get the cash, but they were almost free and better than 18 year old stock speakers.
JBL300.1 to power my woofer
1 Audiobahn AW100s 10" woofer. It's pretty good, but I'll eventually replace it with 2 Boston Acoustics Pro series 12s.

I only have about $700 in my system and I think that I can compete with just about anyone here. I have an Eclipse head unit, Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates, my factory Bose speakers in the kick panels and my factory Bose speakers moved to the sail panel position. A PPI 4100 amp powering 2 Alpine S-Type 12 inch subs. I did the work myself and used top grade wiring like 0 gauge power wire and 12 gauge speaker cable and I believe that is what makes the difference. If you are convinced you want to spend a grand, buy lots of dynomat. This will not only make your highs louder, but will clean up your bass as well. I kind disagree with the earlier post that stated to spend your money on the speakers. Pioneer, Sony, Audiobahn and a million other companies make speakers that are very comparable. If you want good clean sound, put a good amp on some average speakers if you want to save a little dough there. The real difference comes when you spend the big money on the high end component sets from MB Quart, Crystal, and Focal, and frankly, it would be a waste to put them in an F-body, because they just aren't set up for great imaging. Not say that you can't get a great sounding f-body, because I and about 500 other people have pretty good sounding ones ourselves.

Also, I noticed a huge difference between the midlevel recievers from Pioneer, Kenwood, and JVC and the ones from say Alpine and Eclipse. Don't skimp on a head unit. If you have to, look on ebay for one of the nicer units, and don't be afraid to dump a little change into one, because it is the heart and soul of your system and if it only performs average, the rest of your system will only amplify it.

I have put in systems with alpine head units and and Jensen highs (4x6, 6x9) and they sounded 100% better than those powered by the low to mid level kenwood and pioneer decks. I'm not ******* these brands BTW, because there high end stuff is very good.

As far as amps go, try to find the old Rockford square bodied Punch amps for your subs. These are really cheap now and will stand the test of time and push lots of power. The new ones are nice, but on a budget, I would try to save some money here by buying used. Be careful though, and make sure that they don't smoke when hooked up and that all the channels work.

Subwoofer-wise, I would look to Audiobahn or Memphis. These are little known outside of the audiophile community, are good for the money and will be impressive, especially if you pull up outpounding other people's rockfords and JL's.

This post was not intended to insult or flame anyone, or to put down there equipment. It is merely the result of my 8 years of experience in the Automive Audio world. Could also just be my $.02.
