need help quick on 6x9 fitment!

my brother and i just ordered a stereo system for his 89 firebird, just a simple budget system. kenwood CD player, Blaupunkt 4x6s and 6x9s.

the 6x9s are item# PCxt693 6"x9"

Crutchfield says they might not fit... they said theres no "gaurantee" they will fit, but i think they will.... they are 1 1/8" deep. help please!

Just a guess, but from my experience in the past the only kind of 6x9 that WON'T fit is one that has a raised tweeter and midrange (unusually high, that is). If the tweeter and midrange 'tower' breaks the plane of the surround by much more than 1/4" you start to run into problems w/ the tower hitting the factory speaker cover.

Before i knew much about car audio I tried putting a pair of radioshack 6x9s in... they stuck out by 2"s ug!

In short i think you'll be ok depth-wise, but look at a pic and see how much the tweeter comes up

If they stick out too far to be screwed down flush, buy some Dynomat. Use a layer (or two or three) of dynomat to make a gasket to seal the speaker down to the mounting plate.

I have Infinity reference 3 way 6x9s. The Mid and tweeter stick WAY out and the magnet on the back is huge! What I did was when I took the sail panel off was cut out all of the stuff going across where the speaker would be(except the fabric of course).
I would also recommend getting some 1/16 in rubber bushings from Home Depot or something and put them between the metal and the speaker where you are gonna screw them in.(Kinda difficult to get in there but mess with it and it will work) I did this after the rattling was driving me crazy and it works really well, hardly ever rattles any more.
Hope this helps

I used to have my 6x9s mounted in the trunk deck lid. they sounded really well with the amp.it seems like it wouldn't sound good, but it's worth cutting the holes in the plastic. I am putting them back there again because it sounded really good, even with stuff in the trunk. also I miss my trunk,so my subs are currently occupying my back seats...so I can put my lid back in.
