well its tax return time..and im debating buying a system

i have an 82 t/a which doesnt have cutouts for the 6x9's in the sail panels...so all i have right now is a pioneer 2100 detach face cd deck..thats 2 years old now..and pioneer 6x9's in 6x9 boxes..car has no front speakers at all..what would you guys suggest for building a good sounding system..but i dont really wanna spend over 1k and i dont really need something that will blow tha hatch off or something.just want a system that sounds great...and doesnt distort when you turn it up loud..and most likely a single sub.what do you guys reccomend for speakers,subs,amp and deck?

go for eclipse 6x9's for the rear (160 a pair), eclipse 4x6's for the front (120 i belive for a pair),a 310 watt eclipse amp (maybe 300 at most), and a 8600 series dvc 12, (maybe 175). If u wanna do yer head unit eclipse is also great, i have one in my camaro and one in my winter beater, they both never skipped, and eclipse gives you a 1 yr anti theft warantee if its installed by an authorized dealer. I have 8600 series 10's in my winter car and they sound great. Im puttin 8700 series in my camaro but 12's, and they cost 250$ each, due to massive power handling. The eclipse 6x9's i got in my camaro and they sound great, well, as good as they can sound considering placement (behind me firing at eachother), and this summer the 4x6's are gonna be done. I love their gear, it sounds good, is clean w/no distortion, and backed by a great company.

Are you guys crazy? Get some of DJ Sexays kickpanels and put some good quality components in there. Don't worry about 6x9's, you don't need back speakers. I'd go with MB Quart, CDT, Memphis, Focal, or a/d/s/ for components but you'll have to listen to speakers on your own to determine what you like. Another HU would be nice...like Alpine or Eclipse.

Kicks = $175
Components = $250-350

For subs I like JL or Eclipse, but the new Memphis studio series subs are great for the money. ($125 for a 10") You don't need two subs if you get one good one. Around 250-500 watts is good for a single sub. This will get you a quality system that you could easily upgrade later if you wanted (Move sub amp to front and new sub amp and/or another sub).

Sub and amp prices vary darmaticly depending on what you do so I'll leave pricing up to you. Keep in mind wherever you go, don't be forced into a sale and only buy what you want after you've heard it and sat on the idea for a few days. With kicks, good components, good sub(s), and a quality amp for the sub(s), you are going to have a night and day differance in the quality of your car's stereo.

-Matt

Good luck,
Matt

I've got a good idea,if you don't mind hacking up your rear hatch lid.....get some three way 6"round spaekers or 6x9s...whatever and mount them in the lid. it seems ghetto but it actually sounds pretty good considering the resonant effect of the trunk bay,use quality speakers and amp and you can't go wrong,it even sounds good off the head unit,definitly don't put speakers in the dash,kick panels or door pods definitly! an alpine V12 4 channel should do the job. keep the head unit you have unless it really sucks. save the $$

go for the kickpanel idea first. best thing you can do is get some speakers in the kicks. and if dj sexay is still making them, get a set of his. heard only good stuff about his work. worry about front speakers before you worry about the rear. i got a wonderful set of Crystal components for $150, and thats the 3-way set. you will not find a bad review about these speakers anywhere! very good for anyone on a budget and sound as good as some speakers 3x their price. not the best, but very nice. good idea would also be to get an amp for the comps, but its not necessary at the moment. if you have a decent deck, you can put off getting a new one. some wonderful subs for the money are the alpine type-r series. i got my 12" dvc for $130 shipped online. for a sub amp, the jbl's are hard to beat for the price
