ok for now i am taking out all my equipment to get it ready for the big install next month, what is the proper way to discharge and power from a cap that i am going to use later on in the future?

 

Use a test light across the two terminals until the light goes out.

a test light?

 

You know, one of those lights with the wires running out of it that you use to check if a circuit is complete and/or that there is a current. As long as the light stays lit, there is still a charge in the cap. When it goes out: no more current and the cap is safe to store.

 

Make sure it's one of those 12V lights, and not one of those 110V ones used for checking AC current from your house sockets. One of those won't even come on.
