Is 5/8 mdf good for a sub box?

as long as the subs aren't bigger than 6" 
5/8 is borderline. I'd say it's ok for low power, small boxes, but any box that's going to have a large surface and/or high power needs 3/4". Even 3/4" boxes need bracing to stay rigid.
