Dual Voice coil?

What does a dual voice coil do? What is the difference with having dual voice coil in a sub, and not having it? Is it worth the extra money?
Thanks for your responses!

All in the wiring, a DVC sub can be wired series or parallel, say a 4 + 4 can be an 8 ohm or a 2 ohm driver, a 2+2 can be a 4 or 1 ohm, and the 6+6 can be 3 ohm or 12 ohm, those are the typical ones.

With a DVC sub sound wise it will sound like double the amount of subs you have, sort of. I mean not exactly but it also allows you to run more power through the speaker than normal. A friend of mine used 2 Orion DVC's in a bandpass box built by Orion and his car hit 145dB with factory speakers around.
