Part of System to Invest the Most $$$ into

What part of a complete stereo system should I have the most money into to maximize quality and nice, deep, clean bass? Like an enclosure, subs, amp, cap, head unit,or speakers? An example would be to spend most of your money on the amps and spend less on subs etc. So what I'm asking is what part of the system should get the most focus and money? Thanks

front speakers. front speakers, front speakers.

Think about it, a sub is only playing the music from 80hz and down. The amps are just taking a signal, and making it bigger. The headunit is only reading ones and zeros from a cd and converting them to analog signals. The front speakers actually create the music.

If you were to switch between similar head units, or amps, you'd be hard pressed to tell an immediate and big difference. But no 2 sets of speakers sound the same.

Oh, did I mention front speakers are the most important part of a stereo ?

The best building block to start with if you're looking for a lot of clean, powerful bass is a good quality amp (and that doesn't just mean high wattage!!!). If you just wanted mindlessly loud, muddy, pounding bass, then the sub and enclosure would be your first place to look. However, a good amp can make a lesser quality sub sound good, while the same cannot necessarily be said the reverse situation.

Don't get me wrong, though: I feel that some of the other factors (head unit, speakers...) are equally (or more) important to attaining a quality system, but for a primarily bass-minded system, spend more on the amp, and then look for a reasonable sub.

Its all a series of links. A good amp will always be a good amp. CD players seem to change every year.

If I was building a good system, I would probably go with a nice amp first.

Closely behind (and maybe in front if you already have a smaller quality amp) would be to get nice front speakers and make sure they are put in right.

Bass in a car is easy to do. Cheap D class power, cheap subs that put out lots of bass. That is a walk in the park. Plus if you don't have it already, you really might not miss it.

Head unit might only be first if you don't have one now that plays CDs or if the one in your car is dead and want to get tunes NOW. Don't buy a cheap one though, or you might end up replacing it when you get new amps or front speakers. You usually get what you pay for.
