questions about fuse
questions about fuse
How big of a fuse should I put in the fuse holder by my battery. My amp should be running 600 watts peak and 300 rms thru 10 guage wire (i think). On the amp itself there are 2 25 amp fuses. The guy at the stereo shop gave me a 60 amp fuse but it got physically twisted and broke. What does this fuse do anyway? How exactly does it work and does it matter if it's too big or too small? I read it will keep my car from having an electrical fire-how does it do this?
Thanks in advance

It's a fuse. If you have more current then what it is rated for it will go POP(break. don't worry it's a good break) and prevent the high surge from reaching the amp and smokin circuits. As for choosing one its good to get one the same or a bit higher then the fuses on your amp, im assuming 50A fuse is what ud need. Talk to a local audio shop for something.
first off, change that power wire to 8 gauge, same with the ground, and that fuse protects your car, say that your amp somehow shorts out, without that fuse there it will short out your ENTIRE car, that means your screwed, but with the fuse there, the only thing that should happen is that it will blow, costing u only about 5bucks, or it could blow your amp, but not likely, also u want to mount the fuse about 12" from the battery. if you want more information just ask
The inline fuse off your battery is there to protect your car in case the wire shorts out before it reaches the amp. So say your wire chaffed against a piece of metal for a while and got through the insulation, and it shorted, the fuses on your amp are not even part of the circuit, and therefore cannot provide any protection. Thus you have a fuse on the power wire. My amp has 2 x 40 amp fuses, and I run a 60 amp fuse on my 4 awg power wire; never had a problem.
