TPI to carb swap
TPI to carb swap
OOk, yuo may think I'm crazy for wanting to do this, but work with me. Right now I've got an 86 TA with a 350 TPI in tank electric fuel pump. bassicly I wanna run a carb and a pump on the side of my block instead, and I'm wondering if anyone knows EVERYTHING I need to do this swap, please help.
Theoretically, this swap shouldn't be too hard. If you need to pass emissions, find a factory V8 carbureted car in a wrecking yard. At least in the Detroit area, these things are a dime a dozen, at least LG4 cars (vin code H). When you find a car, get the intake manifold, carburetor, throttle cable and kickdown cable, the fuel pump and drive shaft, and fuel lines to the gas tank. You'll also need the ECM, and probably the entire wiring harness. Grab the air pump plus all the vacuum lines. Come to think of it, you might as well yank the entire motor to simplify putting all of it onto the motor in your car. Im guessing your motor is an 86 so everything will bolt right up to your heads just fine. If smog tests aren't a concern, you can do a lot better for just a bit more money. Instead of oe intake and Quadrajet, get an Edelbrock Performer and 600 cfm carb. Im sure you'll have questions so I'll keep an eye on your post. Hope I could help.
It's broken down pretty good in this tech article.
