just curious...

To start my Z... it takes longer than it should... normally a few pumps of the gas pedal should make it fire right up right?

For me it takes a bit more than that...
but I'm thinking thats because of my timing...

would a timing too far retarded (say at about 600-650 for idle) be the cause of why it takes more to start up ?

Would it also be the cause for it popping through the carb?

I did what was suggested to me by replacing the airhorn gasket and a few other misc things but it didn't really help at all...

Anyone?

Start with the timing. As a test, set it to 8 degrees advanced. Running lean will also make it backfire, so check for proper choke function. When the engine is cold, the choke should be shut--check it before you try starting next time.
