Fuel Pump(s) Question
Fuel Pump(s) Question
I just learned that the 87 LG4 came with an in-tank fuel pump. Did they also have the standard block mounted pump (with return line)?
Sounds like a dumb question but mine had an 84 L69HO transplant when I bought it. It does have the block mounted pump.
I'm just wondering about the original configuration for the LG4.

I think the later LG4's had the same arrangement as the L69's, with a "helper" pump in the tank to lift the fuel to the mechanical pump. Earlier ones had just the mechanical pump. I don't know what year it changed.

Wouldn't an 87 have a TBI? If so, then it had to have had an electric pump at about 14psi right? Then if someone else put a 84 engine in there and used a mech pump... then they may have just disconnected the in-tank pump.

Check out the "My Generation Camaro" article in this month's CHP. They have an '87 LG4, and it has both the in-tank pump and the block mounted pump.
I didn't know about the in-tank when I was doing my swap, and never checked the donor car before having it hauled away. Unfortunately, the hauling occurred before I heard about the in-tank possibility. But, the fuse panel doesn't appear to have a fuse for it, so I don't think it had it.
A long time ago, someone said the in-tank was a factory-supplied dealer-install if an owner complained about vapor lock. No clue if that's true, but I suppose it's possible.
My donor did have the little blower motor that blows cooling air on the carb when the engine is hot and shut off. It's mounted inside the fender by the battery. Does yours have that? Supposedly it was part of that vapor lock kit.
