what carb should i get?

what would work good on my stock 305 and still give my really good performance.....my bro said he would sell me his holley 600cfm with vacuum secondaries.....would this work with my car or is there better?

There isn't anything about your q-jet that couldn't be made to perform better than your brother's Holley with just a few tuning steps. First is to make sure it allows the secondary AV to open all the way (see tech articles), second is to tune with rods & hangers.

What's really holding you back is cam & exhaust (and to some degree, heads). Before you could expect to see "really good performance", those issues should be addressed.

If you insist on going with the Holley, you'll need some type of spreadbore to squarebore adapter (yuck), or get an aftermarket intake to allow it to bolt on directly. You'll also need a vacuum/mechanical advance distributor, some means to lock up your tranny's TCC, and some way to disable that SES light that will stay on every time you start the engine (like take the bulb out). Gas mileage will probably suffer, too, if you're using it as a daily driver and are concerned about those things.
