Edelbrock #1406 600cfm , bogs at WOT?

I'm lost.. I figured I'd try here first to see if anyone had suggestions on what my problem may be..

I just had my 305 rebuilt, new cam, flat top pistons, all that good stuff.. I have a new performer intake & performer #1406 electric choke 600cfm carb (both new)..

To go with this, is a completely new ignition system.. MSD 6A control box, MSD blaster2 coil, MSD distributor, new Taylor wires & plugs..

After I getting my car back, I took it easy for the first couple hundred miles to break in the new engine rebuild.. When I finally floored it at a stop light it bogged down at WOT.. Once it got going it was fine, but everytime I go WOT it boggs..

I thought it might have been my cat, which after I checked it was clogged a bit.. The cat problem is now taken care of, but I still have the Bogg at WOT..

Any ideas? As far as exhaust goes I have the 80 series flowmaster, NO headers..

Thanks

I just put a edelbrock 750 cfm carb on my '69 Camaro and had the same problem you described. when you quickly step on the gas it boggs then takes off. The problem is the accelerator pump is injecting too gas when you quickly step on the gas. In the manuel it tell you how to adjust this. I my case I had to get a pump nozzle with a smaller diameter.

Sounds like you need more timing. Where is your total advance set, and what springs are you using in the MSD dist.

Yep, too much shot off of the accelerator pump. This is a common out of the box problem with these carbs.

My carb does the exact same thing and it annoys the hell out of me. It never did it before I added an intake & cam though unless the engine was cold.

Your carb has interchangable pump squirter nozzles. Yours probably comes stock with a #25 or so (stamped on the squirter itself). Try going bigger and smaller from there and see if you get improvement. It's removed by unscrewing the BIG phillips head screw between the primary venturi boosters on the primary side of the carb. THen the whole squirter assy. comes right off. Dont drop any parts down the carb if it's still installed on your engine!

What you are experiencing is DEFINITELY related to the accelerator pump system. THey're almost never right straight out of the box.
