Hood clearance

I need help with hood clearance in my 91 RS. I have a holley street dominator intake with a 750 holley and my hood won't close with an air cleaner. It will close with just the carburetor but if I put even the smallest air cleaner it is to tall. I don't mind getting a new hood but I don't want to have to get a 4 inch cowl so I was thinking about getting a new intake. If I got anything smaller than 4 inch cowl I don't think I would be able to have a decent air cleaner. I am getting my car painted soon and am getting a new hood anyway but 4 inches is a little to exteme for me. I want a shorter intake but I don't want to lose any power. What intake can I get to give some more clearance or what else could I do to get some hood clearance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The latest dyno testing has shown that air filter size is almost meaningless. A 14x2 inch cleaner is plenty. An Edelbrock Performer intake should give you plenty of hood clearance and they are only about $50 to $75 for a decent used one.

would a weiand stealth be better for performance and hood clearance than the holley street dominator?

That street dominator is one tall intake!!! I would get a k&n filter about 10x2 and call it a day. As sitting bull stated car craft did a write up on filters and with a k&n filter size is basicly just for peace of mind I have seen a friend of mine his dad ran 11s with a 10x2.5" k&n filter and he also agreed that after years of experance with the k&n filters that size was of no concern with them. He was putting these filters on a very heavly moded 468 and noticed no power loss from the relatively small filter to no filter at all.

Just some food for thought.

Are you trying a droped base air cleaner that could help you quite a bit if you haven't tried one. I am currently looking for a small diameter droped base air cleaner and am going to run a K&N extreme air on it with a filter no taller then 2" If not i have a stock hood off a v-6 bird I can cut and weld into a cowl hood
