Hey,

I had to give you an update on my ongoing QJ adventures and ask you another question....

First, a buddy of mine (who's rebuilt a QJ or two in his day) came over yesterday to look at mine and possibly assist me with the rebuild. Well, first thing he notices is that the air pump connecting rod is missing (DUH..I told you i'm new to carbs)...luckily I remember it being in the small compartment in my hatch, so we took it out and re-attached it. Do you think this would have anything to do with why the car was shuddering/hesitating at 4-4.5K RPM? My buddy said it seemed like the secondaries weren't wanting to open. What exactly does that rod do/ how is it controlled?

P.S...we replaced the fuel filter too and i'm going home after work to replace some vacuum hoses.

I'm a little confused with your terminology. Go here http://www.carbs.net/Quads/E4MC.htm - are you talking about item # 58 or 322? Or something else?

I would think you have a lean condition causing your symptoms at that high of RPMs, which wouldn't have anything to do with one of those rods.

The missing link (no pun intended) was #58.

That would help avoid the initial WOT stumble, but it should release and not have any effect as RPMs build (assuming the pull-off is connected to the proper vacuum source). Adjust the AV opening tension per the tech article, and if you still have problems, you probably need rods & hanger tuning.

Or, you've got an ignition problem.
