loss of power

loss of power

recently ive been playing with the set screws "at the base of carb" to adjust the fact that my car was running extremly rich but just the other day when at wot and at like 60mph my car suddenly lost all power like i took my foot off the gas completely but i had it to the floor i then pumped it a few times and it worked trough it slowly what is causing this how can i fix it or did i scsrew sumthing up thanks

Your loss of power at WOT is most likely due to fuel starvation. You either have a plugged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, or both.

Fiddling with the mixture screws most likely didn't have any affect on the loss of power symptoms, but probably didn't change your rich mixture situation, either.

BTW, how do you know it was running rich?

You've got two problems here. The over-rich condition is the carb not properly controlling the mixture. That could be a number of things, such as O2 sensor, mixture control solenoid, idle air bleed, float level, etc. None of them would cause the WOT throttle problem you described.
