jetting guru's

i am having trouble jetting my street avenger. i have tried #64, #68, and #69 jets in it. when i stomp the gas it bogs momentarily and then catches up and runs fine. it is much less of a bog and has more pwer with the 69 in it than the others. it smells rich when i put the 69 in it though. i have a small block 406 with edelbrock performer manifold, a lunati cam with 442 lift., double hump heads, roller rockers, shorty headers, accel super coil. 2500 stall.
fuel pressure is constant fron 7-9 psi
what jet should i run?

you need to increase the size of your accelerator pump nozzle or shooter.when looking down at the carb its what squirts the gas out when you work the linkage. go up a size and try it. just be careful not to drop it in the carb, you might loosen it and use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove it.

A 406 might need a little more gas. I run #72s in mine. With #69 it runs all right but it does stumble a lot.

I tried bigger nozzles for my former car for same bogging reasons. No help... But what helped was different accelerator pump cam! They differ greatly in lift and lift pattern.

So, get camkit and try, it should take care of that bog problem.

I'm wondering if your problem isn't actually in your secondaries.

A WOT bog is typically associated with the secondaries opening too soon. The richer jets may be masking that problem a little bit, but not solving it. Same with the accelerator pump mods - might mask the WOT problem, but doesn't address the real problem and would be too much for non-WOT conditions.

Try slowing down your secondary opening and see what that does. The jetting should be determined by trap speed and/or plug reading, not WOT bog vs. no bog.

FWIW, the Avenger has one deficiency - no secondary rejetting possible. You might want to consider converting it to 4150 style.

Try blocking or restricting the exhaust heat crossover
between the manifold and head. On a factory cast iron intake manifolds you need the extra heat for fast warmup, but I found
the edelbrock Performer doesn't need quite so much heat.
There is a optimin manifold plenum temp range whare a said
fuel will work the best. Your's is too hot. Get this dialed in and you should get rid of the fuel smell, Then it will accept the
more normal 70/72 pri jet. I'm assuming you have a 750/770
cfm holley.
