hows your choke work?

hey guys i am thinkin i have the wrong concept of how a choke is suposed to work. now when u guys go out in the morning with your electric chokes do u sit in your car push the peddle to the floor once then start the car and it idle at 1200 or wherever u hav your fast idle set? then if u tap the gas does it go back to 1200 or does the choke go off and the car idle real low liek it has no choke or stalls out? cause i was under the impression that you should be able to rev the engine and it will always go back to being choked untill its warm then the choke goes off. thanks guys

You shouldn't have to push the pedal to the floor to "set" the
choke. Just push the pedal down about 1/4" and the choke
thermostat should close the choke and pull the fast idle cam into
position. If the adjustment screw for the choke is set right, the
engine should start and idle without dying when you put the transmission in gear. Of course, this is assuming your choke pull-
off is working properly and will open the choke slightly (about 1/8") upon starting the engine.
