Looking for the right carb and maifold.
I'm building up a 350 with 4 bolt mains and 4 bbl for my '82. I been looking around at the local speed shops, and through catalogs for a new mainfold and carb to top it off, but I'm not sure what would be a really good carb. I'm thinking about running an Edelbrock manifold, maybe Victor JR. or one of the Performers. If someone has a great intake that isn't too high priced that they can recommend, that would be great. I also need to look for a good 4 bbl carb, but i don't want to pay a s##tload for one. I just need something that is going to give me that punch when I want to surprise the hell out of the guy next to me at the light.

Well a recomendation will depend alot on cam, gears, what kind of driving you do (street, track). For a car that will see any street time a dual plane is the way to go usually. I have a Perfomer right now, but I got it because of emissions. I plan on a Weiand Stealth soon. But you need to have an idea of the power band you are trying to optomize for. For a carb everyone will tell you something different. Any carb works good as long as you tune it well. As far as CFM goes there should be a forumla on this site for figuring out what you need although that isn't always correct, but is good for a ballpark figure. For all out power a holley is probably best, but if it is a daily driver that might not be the best choice. For low $$ you might look into a non computer Q-Jet from a junkyard. Rebuild it and if you tune it right it'll support alot of power and give decent mileage too. But that is if you are confident in your mechanical abilities. The Weiand Stealth is a good intake from what I've heard and claims to work from idle to 6800 rpm. I think Jegs sells it for about $110 still. Anyway, just my opinion, others will vary. And more info is needed to make a good recommendation.
Oh and keep in mind square bore and spread bore when selecting an intake. Unless you have an aftermarket hood with lots of room you probably don't want to run an adapter to put a spread bore carb (e.g. Q-Jet) on a manifold that is meant for a square bore carb (like the Stealth). Just something else to keep in mind.
But you will need to make sure and post some info on cam, gears, ect, for some of the pros on here to make a good recommendation.
