What carb would be best for me?
I have an 86 firebird with a V8 350 in it, bought it like this, it originally had a 305 in it. I want a carb that will increase horsepower and performance as well. I'm kinda new to this stuff (Probably because my last car was an EFI 5th gen Celica) I have come to realize that imports basically suck(my opinion). Also I've come to find that my bird has been sucking down gas. Is this linked to having a bad carb or is it out of adjustment? I mean I go through a half tank after driving 40 or so miles(or is it because I drive all crazy?) If anyone can help I'd appreciate it because I wanna get a good performace carb. Thanks
welcome to the boards
and coming back from the dark side. I hope you have fun with your new car. some of the carbs guys can answer your questions. all I'll say is welcome to the world of V8 gas guzzler. If you stomp on the gas all the time it will suck your wallet dry. I Have a heavy foot too. but 40 miles to the 1/2 tank is harsh......
sounds like the carb needs adjusting and the car needs a tune up

I know V8's are gas guzzlers but damn 40 miles per 1/2 tank is terrible, I'll get the carb adjusted this week and have an electrical tune up done (new plugs, caps and that nice stuff) we'll see what happens then.

Welcome aboard.
You're going to have to give us a lot more information about what you've got now. Or, perhaps the shop can let you know what needs to be done. Hopefully, the engine swap wasn't a hack job with mix & match of parts (non-CC carb, CC dist, etc.).
One thing for sure, though, the ignition has to be up to snuff before you can worry about what the carb's doing. That includes being the right combination of carb & distributor.
