regulator probs

ok to start with i am runnin the holley blue fuel pump on a car i drive everyday. and the regulator that came with is it jsut one of those lil holley ones. well ive been havin probs from the begining with fuel pressure just changin and i mean drastically. im not reall good in this area yet so i need some help. i think one of the probs is the regulator is a 3 port. one in the bottom one out each side then it runs into the carb. and the gauge is only on the front line to the carb which would give an inaccurate reading right? well i bought this paxton one today that has one line in the bottom and one out each side and a place for a gauge on the regulator. do u think this will fix my prob. or am i missin sumthin. one guy told me its building up to much pressure while idleing then once u clear it out it goes down. but how can i set it if it varies. i just hope this paxton one is my answer. please help.

Are you running a return line? How much pressure does the holley blue pump put out?

I have the stock TBI fuel pump in mine pushing ~12 psi and Im using a 3 port mallory fuel pressure regulator. My PSI is set at 5 and never moves. The mallory works great. Im pretty sure its designed to use a return line so you might want to check that out. Maybe that would relieve the pressure thats building up in the line.
