carb/fuel question

Well, I got all my carb stuff done today, and ran into a little problem, maybe someone could help me out... Ok, about this AFPR (adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator). Ok, I found all the hoses necessary for this. There is a metal Fuel feed line, a metal fuel return line, and this rubber vent hose line that is behind my headlights. So, I dont have alot of money, so how can I get this to work without an AFPR? Would it work if I feed the fuel feed line to the carb (already done), and then cap the fuel return line? If I cant do this, why wouldnt I be able to? Will the electric fuel pump give to much pressure to the carb? Or what will happen? Of course, I took my car for a test drive, and fuel started coming out of the fuel return line, after about a 1/2 mile. So I dont get this. Please help if you can. Thanks guys,

Jordan

I assume you're using the factory in-tank electric fuel pump.

Way, way too much pressure. That's why you need the AFPR. It needs to use the return function so the pump is never dead-headed (quick death to the pump).

Not sure why you had fuel coming out of the return line. Perhaps because the vent wasn't venting (the rubber vent line should be connected to a charcoal canister up there - don't loose that).

Hey thanks man, Ive got some problems to work out with it, but your advice helped. Just wondering do you have any reccommendations for the fuel and maybe carb specs I should use for my ex-305 TBI. I put a edelbrock 600 on it, and Im not sure if it is drowning it or not. My roomate had a chevelle 350, with intake carb and headers and exhaust, and he used the 600, and it did good, then my freind with a 3rd gen trans am used a holley 750 on his and it kinda drownded the engine. I hear 600 is a good number for the 305 but wanted a second opinion. I need exhaust I know that, but what about a cam. Thanks for any input by anyone. :hail:

I don't really know if it is too big or not. What I can say is when I had my 305 with a Holley 600, it felt a little too big. I was also running the stock peanut cam though. The carb was also never very well "tuned".

Thanks, I hope it is not too big. I will eventually buy a cam for it, maybe an LT1 or an LT4. But not yet. Also, I have some modified vortec heads in my room just sitting there. :evil grin: So well see what happens. Thanks,

I don't know the fuel pump pn but why go that route? It seems harder to do it that way. Why not just spend the $70 and get the regulator from mallory. Here is the pn for summit MAA-4309. I am about to do an EFI to carb switch myself. I had TPI on my car and tried to go to miniram but had some electrical problems. I have spent 3 months trying to track down the problem and can't find it. Oh well maybe the avenger carb will do better in the long run Let me know what happens
