83 H.O. stock carb??? or a Holley,etc...

HELLO ALL:

I've come back to the board, since the weather got nice and I'm putting my 1983 Z28 H Code car back on the road, after a 4 year sit in my garage. My old Qjet had a dead A/F mixture solenoid, so I decided to opt for a few bucks more, a rebuild from Champion, which I got through work for not much more than the solenoid. But, I'm having 2nd thoughts and want to make this thing a "easy to take care of, daily driver", since I'm getting too damn old and don't have enough time to fool with things, as well as too many other projects. Should I go with a Holley 650 CFM and get rid of the ECM, etc... or does this electronic Qjet setup prevail over that older setup??????

Also, how hard is it to remove the tank, as mine is bound to be full of garbage and I need to clean it out.

this has been a great resource for me in the past and I've always enjoyed contributing to this board, so thanks in advance!!!

PAT

Is this a HO car (L69 motor, code 7 in 83), or a code H car (LG4)?

Not that it makes a whole lot of difference....

If you do away with the computer carb, you'll also need a non-computer-controlled distributor. That combination can easily be made to run better than the factory Q-Jet. Whether it's enough better to justify the cost, or whether that's really the right thing to do, is another matter. If your car is an automatic, you'd also have to deal with the torque converter clutch; the computer will probably be too confused to work it correctly.

Dropping the tank is not fun, but sometimes there aren't really any options. You'll need to drop the rear end as low as it can go by undoing the shocks and the rubber brake line, remove the Panhard bar, maybe the Panhard bar brace, and the exhaust.

Thanks for the advice!

I've decided to keep the CC Qjet I bought and use it and not
worry about all that other stuff.

I had a new exhaust put on this baby not too long ago and it was welded on. So I'll probably not go to hell and back and
leave the tank on. I'll pump the tank dry and put some good gas in it with stabilizer and maybe put a sediment filter inline under the hood in addition to the regular filter and see what happens.

again thanks!
