tpi ot carb xperiment part2

Ok guys have gotten no response on my question about leaving the ecm and wiring harness in and the fuel pump still coming on. it pressurizes but is not running during start up and the oil pressure is pegged over 60lbs( im sure its a malfunction just not sure if it is caused by the swap ) any info is greatly appreciated . ps also concerning the fuel pump relay and how to hot wire it.:hail:

I don't know the complete answer to your question, but I will try to help. The oil press. sending unit, and the fuel pump relay are wired together so as to kill the pump if the oil press. drops below a set psi. My shot in the dark answer is the ECM isn't getting the info it needs to let the car start. I know on my 91 the pump would prime for a couple sec. then shut off until it got a signal from the ECM to turn back on. This signal was based off of some sort of sig. from the distributor. Once it sensed the engine was turning, the ECM would kick the pump back on. As far as why your won't start, I don't know. But to hot wire the pump, find the tan wire off of the relay for the fuel pump. Splice in a wire thats 12V when the key is on. Keep in mind this will let the pump run all the time when the key is in the on position. So if you turn it on to listen to some tunes, the pump will run also. Hope this in some way helped.

hmmm

i recently swapped my tpi motor for a carbed motor, i left the ecm in and just cut off the wires i didnt need to use, taped them up and shoved them in a hole in the fender

i also left my fuel pump. in, BUT i also left the fuel pump that came on the carbed engine on. so i got one fuel pump in the tank and one on the engine. it works so im happy

it starts up fine every time too and stays running, we couldnt run it for long because only the headers are hooked up
seems like a good reason to keep it runnin to me

That is another idea GTABANDIT, use a mech. pump. I have read on here numerous times where people use those and leave the in-tank pump.
