Car will only run with choke wide open!!

My 750 DP will not run with the choke closed it will only run with it wide open and needless to say it drinks gas like I drink my cold one's. Is there anything I could do to fix this or do I need to have it rebuilt?

You live in Florida I assume its hot ...so why would you need your choke?

If it's been around the block a few times it's possible that the Power Valve is either sticking open (enrichment mode) or the diaphragm in it is ruptured and leaking raw fuel past into the intake. If you've played with the idle mixture screws and nothing seems to help, it's rebuild time.

Also, there are 4 little brass air bleeds in the venturis (4 in the primary side, 4 on the secondary side). If they are plugged up it'll run pig-rich, too. Some carb cleaner and a small piece of wire (or a wire-drill bit) will unplug lightly clogged bleeds. We're talking about a diameter of maybe .020". Just be careful- they are VERY small holes and don't take kindly to heavy-prodding from an oversized piece of wire or drill bit.

That's the way it was when I bought the car, I'm now into repairing and adding my own personal touches to make this car truely mine.

Damon I've tinkered around with the idle mix screws and nothing happened. I'll try the venturis today if that doesn't work it's off to the shop for a rebuild or just have another one put on.

Thanks for your help guys.
