Quick question

i got a 86 trans am lg4. i was wonderen what size carb came on these motors from factory. my carb is in need in of a rebuild and im wonderen if i should just get a new carburetor. but if i get a new carb will that help out a bit or do i need to get a better intake. and or heads? thx

They all had the same "size", but actual flow would vary.

Check this tech article https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/quadrajet.shtml . If/when your AV opens as it can/should, the carb will flow somewhere between 750-800 CFM.

That's a bunch more than your engine needs. But, the beauty of the q-jet is that it "becomes" what the engine needs.

The carb isn't what is limiting your engine. The exhaust, air cleaner, cam, and heads (in basically that order) are, however. Rebuild your carb, upgrade those other things (can be done and keep it smog-legal, if that's an issue for you), and that little engine will surprise you. See details in my sig for one approach.

Unless you use the car exclusively for bracket racing, it doesn't make much sense to change out the carb. Even if a dedicated bracket racer, I've been beaten by a q-jet equiped car more times than I want to think about.

anyone got any pictures of the av valve. im may do this mod but i want to be sure i know what im doing before i do it. anyone who has done this lemme know how it came out.
