My holley street avenger, and the holley street dominator inatke (idle-7200 the tall one) would barely fit under my hood with a 3'' element and drop base....

I got all kinds of room now

If the Sportsman II intake manifold is the same height as the Edelbrock Performer RPM it will fit with the right drop base air cleaner. Get the carb pad height specs from the manufacturer.

The right drop base air cleaner is the ones that were origional
on late 60's chevy muscle cars.

You can buy the aircleaner ***. or just the base from

GM drop base aircleaners Among other restoration parts sources.
They were auctioning some on Ebay.

These air cleaners provide more clearance than the common aftermarket 14" drop base aircleaners.

If you use it with a aftermarket holley carb with a tall(er) choke horn than the old OEM factory holleys of the era you'll need to cut down or remove the choke horn to get the proper airflow into the carb.
Edelbrock carbs don't have this problem but will need a 3/8" thick carb horn spacer to fit the GM base. (Edelbrock catalog)

Here is a pic of the setup on a Firebird. It fits wityh some room to spare.

If you already have the intake you can measure the carb pad height specs like this and compare the the Edelbrock RPM specs.
