MAP Sensor?
My friends car is a 85 bird with a LG4 and there is no vacume line to his MAP where does a vacume line come from to go to the MAP sensor and is this correct to have this I didnt know that carbs had MAP sensors and if so would this make his LG4 slower than it already is?
Yeah... since the LG4 uses a carburetor, the computer doesn't really have an affect (in so far as I understand it) on the amount of fuel, etc. HOWEVER, the computer does have the built in ESC box (Electronic Spark Control) which is used by the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor, as it's explained measures the Manifold Absolute Pressure. So, if you floored it, it would create a high amount of vacuum (correct me if I'm wrong). The HEI distributor would then know to advance the timing based on the increased vacuum.
So it's possible he isn't getting the full performance from his car.
I see a LOT of people disconnect the MAP sensor. usually just because they don't know what it does.
