I recently rebuilt my 350 and have taken it for a test drive.
The problem I noticed was at very low rpm.
When at idle, I hit the gas 3/4 the transition from idle (800rpm) to lets say 4000rpm it was perfectly smooth however then it covered 1000 to 1500 rpm slightly slower than any other rpm range.
However when I put it into drive not only does it almost die sometimes but from a dead stop if you give it moderate gas it sounds like it is about to stall or stumble then 200 rpm after that it is fine.
I already tried my timing. This continued to happed when I was at 0 degrees advance, then I tried 2, then 4, then 6degrees.
Throughout these timing settings the same problem consisted(almost stumble around 800-1100rpm).
I also experimented with the air fuel mixture and it is currently set up at max rpm).
I also cleaned all of the plugs and gapped them, as well as checked firing order..All ignition components are completely new.
To me it smells like it is running rich due to the plugs being slightly soaked and very black before cleaning them ,however after the adjustment in a/f the plugs were a light brown.
What COULD BE CAUSING THE STUMBLING HAVOC???

Something is up with your fuel delivery......
well the oddest thing happened.
I set the timing(disconnected vacuum advnce) to about 10 + degrees retarded and I went from 4 hg of vacuum to 16hg.
So I guess as long as my vacuum at idle is safe, my timing indicator tab or something is in the wrong spot?
I dont know then..because it doesnt stumble and seems to run fine and sound fine although the timing is indicated at such a rediculous retarded number.

Don't know if you have a factory damper, but when they go, they twist, showing the wrong timing.
I have a new 8'' damper
However, when I was checking my vacuum at idle,,the guage was also reading that valve timing was off. And when I did my initial lifter preloading and valve timing, I just looked through spark plug hole to check tdc...this might of varied the valve timing throughtout.
I am going to reset the timing using a TDC spark plug chaser.
I think that is my problem all along..valve timing.

valve timing really has nothing to do with your distributor position. In order to change valve timing you'd have to pull the cam gear.
You may have the dist installed a tooth off.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I finally had some time this week to sit down and check the issue out.
Upon further inspection I realized that 2 of the dist. cap clamp screws weren't connected, that would explain certain jumping from 5 degrees retard. to about 12 advance.
Everything is smooth, and now I can advance as much as I wanted to and everything runs perfect.
No tooth off dist. installation, no incorrect cam install, just 2 simple clamp screws which were impossible to get at because of my enormous ACCEL COil.
WHO HOO!!!
