Computer Controled Quadrjet (Funky Idle) Help
I have a question. My brother has recently baught a 1984 TA with a 305 LG4. I have a couple of questions. One When the car is started and after it warms up you can smack the gas pedal and the car Idles down to about 650 rpm but if ya put it in gear and take a drive and come back and put it in park the idle is back up to about 1300 rpm. Now with all the sensors and Idle control selinoid how do I properly adjust this and keep it from going back up. It is a big problem because when you go to stop the car keeps pulling and makes it harder to stop. also what color should the wire be that goes to the choke. I should be able to tune this no problem considering that my camaro is TPI and I deal with most of the same sensors. But a Computer Controled Carb. Hmmm who would of thunk it .

Sounds like a funky operating choke. The high idle cam is supposed to drop down when the accelerator is tapped after the choke has opened.
Believe it or not, you might have an alternator problem. A certain level of voltage is required out of the alternator to engage the choke relay. This is a really out-there guess, but if the voltage is high enough when the engine has been running for 5 minutes or so, but then drops when the engine is warm and continues running, the choke may come back on partially, enough to re-engage the high idle cam.
Regardless of cause, sounds like the high idle cam is re-engaging.

Oh, 3rd gen V8 CC carbs don't have idle speed control, except for the step solenoid when the AC is on.

Ok I tried to set Idle by adjusting the Idle screw and when I backed it off the throttle Blade thing (the thing the Throttle Cable and tv cable hook to carb) wont touch the screw it is like something is binding. I plan to take it off this weekend and see what it is but if any body has any Ideas please help. It is like some one always has thier foot on the gas pedal slightly. but dosent, I checked all cables and their fine.

The high idle cam is on the passenger side. The screw is accessed from the rear. It has a weight that drops down when the choke goes off on the front, between the choke housing and carb body. The weight is green, can't miss it.
If that weight is up when you adjust the main idle on the driver's side, the throttle arm will be away from the screw.
